Tank Design
The foundation and key to the effectiveness of the BIG BLUE system is the tank itself. The tank has been designed to use gravity and the movement of air and water to perform the vital functions of the treatment system. Instead of a basic box, the sides of our tank slope to the center of the bottom where the diffusers are located. This eliminates areas where sludge can collect and become septic and ensures that the entire aeration chamber mixes completely and absorbs the maximum amount of oxygen.
Moving flow
Solids and water first flow upward because of the laminar flow caused by the column of air created by the diffusers. Once at the surface, the flow travels to the side of the tank and then downward along the outer tank wall. The sides of our tank slope to the center of the bottom where the diffusers are located. The flow follows the slope of the outer tank walls until reaching the diffusers and the process starts all over again.

Tank construction
We assumed the BIG BLUE tank would need to last for decades and knew that it needed to be constructed to do so. We also knew that the tank would need to maintain its performance level during its entire functional lifespan. To this end, we partnered with a high-quality fiberglass fabricator located near our headquarters. Fiberglass does not corrode, is permanently sealed and unlike cement, does not require sealants or maintenance. The tank is manufactured (in blue) to our exacting specifications out of gel coated fiberglass in accordance with NSF 61 standards and is sealed from the outside environment.
